IF you've got the grades outlined in your conditional offer, congratulations. You will shortly receive confirmation of your place from UCAS.
If you haven't got the grades you need, don't panic. Contact your first and insurance choices as they may still offer you a place, especially if you have only narrowly missed the grades. If not, you will receive a clearing entry form (CEF) from UCAS.
You will need this form to apply for a place at another college or university.
If you did not apply through UCAS or your firm and insurance choices cannot offer you a place, you may still be able to find a suitable course through the clearing process.
Decide what course(s) you are interested in (listings can be found on the UCAS website). Contact local colleges of higher education and universities to see what places they have available.
Although you may need to act quickly to secure a place in clearing, courses can and do become full within a few days of clearing commencing.
Remember the factors that were important to you when considering where to study, for example graduate employment rate, course content, accommodation cost and provision, class sizes, social life or distance from home and look for available courses that meet your needs.
One of the major reasons students drop out at university is because they selected the wrong course. You might have to act quickly, but you can research an institution and course just as thoroughly during clearing as you did first time around.
When you have identified courses and colleges/universities of interest telephone them and ask about the availability of the course you're interested in, course content and required entry grades. Tell them about your qualifications and experience and see if they would be prepared to offer you a place.
