The popular grammar school in Handsworth was founded in 1862 and has remained on the same site - loyal to the people of the area and beyond ever since.
Over the years there have been many additions to the buildings at Handworth Grammar, more recently including an eight room science block and a dining hall and ICT suite.
Shortly to be built are two additional classrooms, enabling the mobile classrooms to be removed, so that all of the classroom teaching can be in held permanent accommodation. Future plans include a new sports hall and the addition of an extra ICT room, both of which will enable the school to offer improved facilities to its students and also to the community.
The school is becoming the sixth form of choice for many Advanced level students, particularly those of the area, but also attracts students from all over Birmingham and beyond. They go to Handsworth Grammar School because the staff, both teaching and non-teaching, work hard to enable them to achieve well within a caring environment.
The range of subjects taught is wide and Ofsted inspectors declared that the quality of the teaching is consistently good.
