MORE than 35 years after Al Green was at the height of his fame, the singer-turned-Reverend still oozes soul.
At 61 and with more than three decades in the business behind him, he may be a little podgier but little else has changed.
Green's vocals are still heart-meltingly clear and his trademark falsetto has not aged one bit. His vibrant showmanship, accompanied by a simple set, two dancers and a 12-piece band, was more than enough to fill the vast venue.
Green's devotion to religion and his passion for what he called "baby-making music" sat side by side as he switched from Amazing Grace to the romantic Let's Stay Together.
There was a tribute to soul greats - with Sam Cooke's Bring It On Home, The Temptations' My Girl and Otis Redding's I've Been Loving You Too Long.
