Head back to skool in style

Jun 27 2008

By Will Oliphant, Birmingham Mail

ONE of Birmingham's biggest nightlife venues is preparing to host some of the nation's largest club events, starting with old skool night Masters of the Past.

The Q Club, in Corporation Street, will stage the night, presented by Birmingham's own old skool master MC Lenni, on July 4.

It will also feature, SL2, Fabio, Top Buzz, Ratty, DJ SY, as well as the vocal talents of MC GQ, Robbie Dee, Ranski, Mad P and Jay Jay.

The second room at the club, part of the former Methodist Central Hall, will feature Hysteria returning to its spiritual headquarters for the first of many planned dates.

Midlands DJs representing the Drum 'n' Bass night include Ray Keith, Bryan Gee, Jumpin Jack Frost, Escape, Stanza Freenote and Tek Prime.

In the third room clubbers can experience Birmingham's newest underground internet station, After Dark radio, which will bring its own residents to offer the ravers a selection of new skool hardcore breaks from DJs Gary Pendulum, Mark T, Evolution and more.

Club owner Billy Choudhary says: "Nights like this can only be good news for the partying public of Birmingham and indeed the UK.

"There is no other building in the country with as much character, history and versatility as this former 'cathedral' which is over a 100 years old; marrying old traditions with new ideology to form the UK's most iconic venue."

Other upcoming events at the venue throughout the year will include Q Fest, Pacha, Cream, Drum 'n' Bass Awards, Cocoon, Move, Spectrum and the legendary Sundissential.

Advance tickets are £15 and there will also be free glowsticks, whistles and air horns available. For more information, or to buy tickets for the event visit www.qclub.co.uk or call 0121 212 1212.
