The Presets

AUSTRALIAN electro duo The Presets are coming to Birmingham on Wednesday to promote their new album Apocolypso - but drummer Kim Moyes admits the preparations for the show have been hampered by illness.

The 32- year-old dragged himself away from watching Gordon Ramsey on the television at his Sydney home to tell me about dealing with sick bandmate Julian Hamilton, the success of their new single and their committed international fanbase.

"We've had to cancel three of our dates in Australia in the coming week because Julian has got tonsillitis," he says. "He picked it up while we were touring in America.

"He's in bed now, he's pretty sick but he should come around after a few days rest.

"Even though Julian got sick we had a good time. We've pretty much been all over the place recently and all the audiences have been really into the gigs.

"They've all been singing along to songs that we haven't even really released yet which is a really good feeling."

Kim, who is also a member of Sydney instrumental group Prop, says he enjoys coming to Birmingham and in the past has played gigs at the Custard Factory.

"It's really good. I remember our last gig there last year. For some reason we have a really good following in Birmingham and it's going to be really nice to come back and play there again.

"Whenever we're in town we have a good time and we've played some memorable gigs there in the past."

The Presets are currently signed to Australian label Modular Recordings.

Having recently released their new single, This Boy's In Love, the pair are due to play Glastonbury this weekend and will be supported at the Rainbow gig in Deritend by Birmingham band Deluka.

* Tickets for the show are £6 in advance or £8 on the door and can be bought from www.theticketsellers.co. uk. For more information visit www. myspace.com/kamikazeevents.
