It's the high season for top entertainment

Jun 13 2008

With Marion Mcmullen

ROLL UP, roll up for the Circus of Horrors, a rock and roll legend and top entertainment.

The Belgrade Theatre's new autumn season goes on sale today and they are hoping to tempt audiences with a mix of comedy, classic drama and traditional family pantomime Dick Whittington.

The Coventry gets off to a rock and roll start on September 5 with the revamped version of Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story by Rugby-based director Rob Bettinson.

The show has been seen by 20 million people worldwide and kicks off its new tour in Coventry.

It's followed by classic comedy 'Allo 'Allo starring Vicki Michelle and past Belgrade Theatre actor Jeffrey Holland. The new show has been specially written for the stage by series creators Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft.

Ex-EastEnder Marc Bannerman and Sara Crowe star in Alan Ayckbourn's Absurd Person Singular and former EastEnder baddie Alex Ferns and Gerald Harper appear in Agatha Christie thriller And Then There Were None.

Award-winning funnywoman Dillie Keane stars in Olivier Award-nominated play My Brilliant Divorce and there is also a new season of Mid-Day Variety specials.

The Belgrade Theatre's own production is a new version of Lorca's powerful tale The House of Bernarda Alba and Blitz play One Night in November returns following a sell-out run earlier this year.

Coventry-based actor Andy Hockley is also back to play panto dame in Dick Whittington and other specials include stand-up comic Rhona Cameron, The Motown Show, The Vagina Monologues, The Night Before Christmas and the return of the Khan Brothers.

The world-famous Circus of Horrors will also be visiting the Belgrade for the first time in the New Year. It will be offering voodoo acrobats, sword swallowers, freaks and sensations and is not recommended for under-16s or the faint-hearted.
