Daisy Pulls It Off, Lichfield Garrick

Jun 19 2008

By Roger Clarke, Birmingham Mail

DAISY pretty well pulls it off in this Ian Dickens production of the 1983 Denise Deegan send-up of girls' school stories.

An excellent cast take us to Grangewood School for Young Ladies in 1927 where the arrival of Daisy, ex-EastEnder Carly Hillman, as the first state school scholarship pupil sets the scene for snobbery, rotters, jolly gals and spiffing adventures.

A clever script, laughs and some deft touches from the cast make it hard to find fault, but somehow the play, rather than this top-hole production, lacks that spark which would have make it a classic. The fun runs until Saturday.
